Rachel will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics
Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge is the new Miss England. The Director of Miss England Ltd. Angie Beasley announced that Katrina has been given leave from her duties as a soldier in the British Army to represent England in the Miss World Final to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday, 12th December 2009.
Katrina was the first runner up in this year’s prestigious competition and has been awarded the title of Miss England, following the stepping down of the original title-holder, Rachel Christie.
Following her success in the Miss England competition, Katrina was selected by lingerie retailer La Senza to front their Armed Forces campaign.
Lisa Bond, Marketing Director, La Senza said “Everyone at La Senza was delighted to work with Katrina Hodge as the Face of our Armed Forces campaign. Not only is she absolutely gorgeous but she is also an intelligent, inspiring young woman who does such an amazing job for her country. We all wish her the best of luck in Miss World.”
According to BBC reports, Miss Christie became involved in a dispute with another beauty queen, Miss Manchester, Sara Beverley Jones, at a Manchester nightclub earlier last week. Miss Jones, 24, was allegedly punched in the face after an argument said to be about Tornado, a 22-year-old Gladiator who appears in the Sky1 series and whose real name is David McIntosh. It is believed that Miss Jones, a club promoter and would-be actress, is an ex-girlfriend of Mr. McIntosh while Miss Christie is his current partner.
The Press Association reported that Miss Christie was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed until January 2010.
Due to the media attention following the allegations against her, Miss Christie decided to withdraw from the Miss World competition and relinquish her Miss England crown.
Miss Christie, 21, became the first black woman to be crowned Miss England. She is also a heptathlete who hopes to win a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.
She will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics until this case is resolved.
The Director of Miss England Ltd. Ms. Beasley said Miss Christie is very upset about the matter and promised that she together with Miss World Chairman Julia Morley will fully support Miss Christie and are behind her with her Olympic training.
