The dynamic award-winning R&B musicians Bkay and Kazz have just launched their third album titled “African Spirit”.
Bkay and Kazz tore their way into the limelight by winning the Live and Unsigned UK competition in 2007. Kazz aka Farhaan Khan described their new album, “African Spirit” as “a positive, feel-good record.”
He said the LP “symbolises growth, new beginnings and a fresh perspective for us; we feel our world and the whole world is going through this transformation as well.” The new LP comes out at a time when there are “question marks and uncertainty all over the place. People want to be reminded that it’s all going to be all right,” Kazz said.
Kazz is convinced that “African Spirit” will take their “fans and new listeners alike back to where it all began, to Africa. It carries the vibe of togetherness, love and fun.”
The Zimbabwe-born duo previously launched the critically acclaimed lead single “Eva Since” – a sunny and catchy number with Congolese Soukous influences tinged with House baselines.
“Eva Since” set the tone to “African Spirit”, characterised by a summery jangle to the guitars, sonic synthes, echoing vocals; all hemmed neatly with languorous African tones to knot a tight and genuine pop number.
Earlier this year, the brothers teamed up with six other Zimbabwean artists based in the UK, New Zealand and Malaysia including African Music Award winner, Jusa Dementor, R&B diva Cynthia Mare and TK Paradza, to release an intercontinental remix of Nigerian superstar, JJC’s “We Are Africans”. The anthemic track embodies the meaning and significance of African unity and combines the sentiment of pride with clear messages of harmony and positivity.
Bkay said: “With the new album, we have made music that reflects our beliefs, persona and development. When you’re working just because you love it, without pressure, and just expressing your feelings, emotions and having fun, you are certain to come out contented.”
Born Seiraj Khan (Bkay) and Farhaan Khan (Kazz), they picked up the guitar and the piano respectively as toddlers. In 2007 Bkay & Kazz packed their bags and flew out to set base in the UK. They entered the national talent show Live & Unsigned UK – the second biggest competition in the UK after Simon Cowell’s X-Factor, and after auditioning with 30,000 other acts, the boys waltzed through every level to be crowned the ultimate winners of the competition.
To mark this success, the brothers recorded the hugely popular self-penned single “You Know It’s Right” as lead to the subsequent release of their international debut LP, “Boomslang”.
“You Know It’s Right” proved a hit taking the duo to number one in the singles download charts and also made it into the UK Top 30 Charts.
Their video was rated top ten on Channel U’s music charts and this success led to promoters knocking on their door requesting that they share the stage with some of today’s top entertainers, such as Jay Sean, Omarion, Sisqo, Marques Houston, Oliver Mtukudzi, Andy Brown, Nathan and Ne-Yo.
“African Spirit” is available on all major download stores including iTunes, Amazon and CDbaby.
