Amaka Igwe, a Nigerian film-maker and Nollywood icon is dead. Ms Igwe who was one of Nigeria’s top film producers died on 28th April 2014 in Enugu.
Agility Onwurah, Chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abuja Chapter, described Ms Igwe’s death as a big blow to the Nollywood industry.
“Amaka had gone to Enugu in company of her husband for a pre-production preparation for a new Igbo soap when the sad incident occurred,” Vanguard quoted Mr Onwurah to have said. “She suffered asthmatic attack and was immediately rushed to a hospital, but died before getting there.”
Ms Igwe passed on at 51. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Charles Igwe, three children, and an aged mother.
Nollywood producer and director Obi Emelonye sent a message of condolence to the family. “RIP Amaka Igwe. A giant has fallen but your legacy lives on. Rest in peace my sister. And may God grant your family, particularly my brother Charles, the fortitude to bear this tragic loss,” he posted on his Facebook page.
