Miss Elegant International founder has a one on one with Pauline Long
She has been in the entertainment and showbiz for only four years, but Theodora Ibekwe has already established and successfully organised the prestigious Miss Elegant International beauty pageant. Pauline Long caught up with this beautiful and unstoppable lady to find out what she’s about and her projects.
Who is Theodora Ibekwe?
Theodora Ibekwe is a Nigerian UK based TV producer/presenter and the founder of the prestigious Miss Elegant International.
How long have you been in the industry and how is it going so far?
I have been in the industry for four years and to God be the glory. So far I have made a lot of progress. Miss Elegant International is now a household name and that’s good news and a step forward. We are improving every day, there is a saying “Rome was not built in a day” so in other words we will get there with time. We will be celebrating three years this year and we are looking forward to celebrating 10 years, Silver Jubilee and Golden Jubilee, etc by God’s grace.
There are so many pageants around, what made you decide to establish the prestigious Miss Elegant International?
I decided to establish the prestigious Miss Elegant International even though there are so many other beauty pageants, because firstly, this is not a beauty pageant just like the conventional beauty pageants. It is a pageant searching for the most elegant girl in the world regardless of height, weight, colour, race or age. I am trying to make all girls realise everyone is beautiful in her own ways, build self confidence, believe in themselves and make them role models. To be a Beauty icon or Elegant you need not be a size zero. It’s all about the way you carry yourself gracefully.
The pageant is now a TV series, what a great move; tell us more about it…..
The pageant is now a TV series and the reason is, my concept of Miss Elegant is to create awareness that beauty has no restrictions and to be very honest a lot of people do not attend shows or events, a lot do not read newspapers or magazines or even go on the internet to watch videos because obviously not everyone is computer literate hence I decided to make it a TV series because I know virtually every home has a TV and through this medium I can create awareness of what the concept of Miss Elegant is all about.
The pageant ran into trouble with Miss World organisers, how did you deal with that?
Indeed the pageant ran into trouble with the organisers of Miss World last year. My lawyer dealt with it but above all it was God who saw us through.
When are the auditions for Miss Elegant International 2011 and how do you select contestants?
As I speak we have done two lots of auditions for Miss Elegant International 2011 and we are still searching, so contestants still have the chance to apply. We will be having the last audition on or before September 2011. The Grand Finale will be in November 2011.The selection is being made by a panel of beauty pageant organisers, it’s a collective score and not a one man decision.
What next for one of the busiest personalities in showbiz?
I work on new projects every day, right now I am working on having Miss Elegant organised in every country starting from Nigeria. I will also organise pageant for teenagers and also publish Miss Elegant International magazine annually.
