At least 5,000 Afrobeat and comedy lovers are expected to converge at the world famous HMV Apollo on 28th August Bank Holiday Sunday (Carnival Sunday) for Africa’s biggest Music and Comedy showcase in the UK – the Afrobeats Festival. It will feature Africa’s biggest and brightest stars.
The Afrobeats Festival is organized by Choice FM in Association with Cokobar.com, Phoenix Media, Smade & HITV.
Award winning Afro Pop sensations P Square, Wiz Kid, Ice Prince and many more will take to the stage to bring an electrifying event never before seen in the UK. A fusion of music and comedy, the show will be hosted by Choice’s DJ Abrantee and also feature the best of UK and African comedians Basket Mouth and Elenu.
Africa’s biggest Pop Stars PSquare will bring their sound to the UK. With sold out stadium and arena concerts under their belts and a feature on CNN, Afrobeats audiences should expect an incredible show from the world famous twins. Speaking on the upcoming show, Peter of PSquare states: “We are really looking forward to our UK performance with full band and making sure our UK fans have a night to remember. This will be a celebration of African music and how far it has come.”
In his first UK concert, Wiz Kid, the Afrobeats ‘Artist of summer 2011’ is set to blow the audience away with his dancehall infused hit ‘Tease me’ and club staple ‘Don’t Dull’ from his new album ‘Superstar’.
Joining the line-up is the charismatic Ice Prince performing his crowd pleaser ‘Oleku’ and new single ‘Superstar’. Ice Prince brings Hip Hop to a whole new level to form what can be termed Afro Hip Hop- a fusion of traditional Hip Hop beats and rap with a melodic blend of an African dialect. Ice Prince is set to light up the stage at the Afrobeats Festival.
Speaking of the Afrobeats Festival, Mobo Award winner and one of the pioneers of the Afrobeats genre DJ Abrantee says: “The Afrobeats Festival is one that has come at the right time when the world is now paying attention to African entertainment and with the show’s line up, a lot of people will be shocked at what Africa has to offer. To all our listeners of the Afro Beats show every Saturday on Choice FM the stage is set for a truly memorable night.”
The Afrobeats Festival 2011 will also feature Basket Mouth who is co hosting the show and dishing out some rib cracking jokes.
“The Afrobeats Festival is certainly more than an event for us; we have joined forces with the best team to showcase the best of Africa,” says Mr. Ropo Akin, CEO Coko Bar London. “We hope to take African entertainment to new heights and eventually have own version of Glastonbury, why not?”
The Afrobeats Festival at the HMV Apollo is certainly looking like an Epic blockbuster and a sneak preview to the world of what African music and African entertainment has to offer. The show certainly has something for everyone and promises to be the event of the year.
