Some 30 beauty queens from Zimbabwe living in the UK have been selected to compete in the Miss Zim Diamond semi finals.
The red carpet event will be held on Saturday 6th August 2011 at the plush Abbey Bar, 30-33 Minories, Aldgate, London EC3N 1DD.
Only 15 of the contestants will be chosen to compete in the finals in September.
All the contestants have one thing in common: they are all passionate about flying the flag of Zimbabwe and promoting the beauty and talents that the country has to offer.
The auditions were held the South, Midlands and as far as North England and Scotland. “It has been an incredible journey with so much passion and amazing talent. All the girls that auditioned deserved a place in the semi finals but we are limited because we need to identify a winner who will eventually be an ambassador for Zimbabwe in the UK,” says Glorianne Francis, founder of Miss Zim Diamond.
The semi finals will focus on giving the contestants a chance of marketing various tourist destinations and resorts in Zimbabwe.
The organizers of Miss Zim Diamond hold that there are many undiscovered tourist destinations in Zimbabwe that need to be exposed to the entire world. The most effective way of marketing the country’s beauty is through her beauty queens, the organisers say. “The vision is for the girls to shine the spotlight on Zimbabwe, tell their stories to the world and inspire one another.”
All the girls will wear Classic Chic attire sponsored Adel Kaseke of Curvy Swan. Adel recently launched her trademark label and is currently selling her designs on ASOS.co.uk. There will also be an African design category sponsored by various talented Zimbabwean designers.
Miss Zim Diamond aims at promoting the positive image of Zimbabwe as a tourist destination and a perfect place to invest in. It is sponsored by Econet and endorsed by Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and by many celebrities including Shingai Shoniwa of the Noisettes to name a few.
