A man has been sentenced to two years in prison for a sexual assault on a lone woman late at night.
Mizio Carvalho, 28, of Moody Road, Peckham was violent throughout the prolonged attack which occurred in the early hours of Sunday 21st April 2013.
The victim managed to run away from Carvalho after the attack in Rosemary Court, Peckham Grove, SE15 and quickly alerted police.
On 2nd July 2013 Carvalho pleaded guilty at Woolwich Crown Court to one count of sexual assault after DNA evidence connected him to the attack.
Upon his release, Carvalho will be placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
Detective Constable Paul Barham, from the MPS Sapphire Command, said: “This was a horrific attack on a lone woman. Carvalho acted in a predatory manner targeting a vulnerable woman. This conviction will hopefully go some way to providing some comfort and reassurance to the victim and her family.”
Detective Inspector Jacqueline Wakeford-Smith, MPS Sapphire Command, added: “Carvalho is a sexual predator who preyed on a woman while she walked home. I am grateful to the victim for coming forward and having the courage to support officers to identify and bring the perpetrator to justice. The community should feel reassured by this conviction, that such behaviour will not be tolerated, women should be safe to walk in the streets free from such attacks.”
