Descendants group to launch new book “Echoes from the past”

A new book titled “Echoes from the past” will be launched in London on 17th March 2012.

The event organized by Descendants, a youth group based in Acton, West London, will take place at Priory Community Centre, Actonlane, W3 8NY, from 19:00.

Descendants was established in 1993, by a group of African and Caribbean parents. Its aim is to inspire and encourage children of African descent to aim high, and be proud of their achievements.

The book tells the history of Descendants since its foundation. It features fantastic contributions from past participants, children, parents and past volunteers.

Members of Descendants group will entertain the guests during the book launch. There will also be a special performance from the special guest Miz Camara, a young up and coming singer and performer, who also contributed to the book.

The group has performed for the Kaun Heart Foundation, Patti Boylaye Reaching Out For Africa, and for the Queen in 2000 at the Golden Jubilee celebration.

For the last eight years Descendants has been running an achievement awards ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of people of African and Caribbean descent in the Borough of Ealing.

Margaret Noel, Founder and Co-ordinator of Descendants said that the awards ceremony has been renamed in honor of the group’s Patron Dr. John Roberts CBE Q.C.

The 8th achievement awards will be held on 6th July 2012.

Descendants  has received support from Lord Soley, Lord Boateng, Ms. Careeta Robert-Green, and many others.
