Bring Back Our Girls painting by Zita Holbourne

Our girls are beautiful, bright
They don’t deserve this plight
Our girls have every right
To enjoy and benefit from education
Be inspired and become inspiration
For their own and next generation

Bring back our girls!

Our girls are nieces, sisters, daughters
Of aunties, sisters, mothers
Of uncles, brothers, fathers
They are not chattel or currency
They should  be laughing, carefree
Not taken from their family

Bring Back Our Girls!

The horror of their situation
Fills us with trepidation
And anger about the lack of action
Our girls deserve humanity
They must be freed urgently
We hang on to hope and solidarity

BRING BACK OUR GIRLS!

Because the alternative is too much to bear
Are they not valuable enough for the world to care
Do they expect their families to crumble in despair
Our girls deserve freedom and equality
Our girls deserve chances and dignity
Our girls deserve opportunity

BRING BACK OUR GIRLS!

How dare they abduct and enslave our daughter
Take her like a lamb to the slaughter
Try to strip her of the values we taught her
Our girls belong not to a forced upon them groom
But gaining knowledge in the classroom
Our girls belong not to a life of abuse and doom

But to a life of joy and liberty
Nurtured and loved by their family
Not forced to remain in captivity
As days turn to weeks hearts bleed
Grandparents, parents, siblings plead
For action to be taken with speed

And around the world people join their cries
Outraged by this disregard of our girl children’s lives
And in protest and out of humanity rise
Calling
Shouting
Hash-tagging

Bring back our girls!
BRING BACK OUR GIRLS!!
